农历四月初八，释迦摩尼佛圣诞，即浴佛节，是佛教传入中国后兴起的宗教节日。这一天首要的活动是“浴佛”。明清以来，北京地区就有舍结缘豆的习俗。平时和尚拈豆念佛。一个豆子表示念一声佛号。善男信女也都愿意在这一天来寺院烧香还愿，或礼佛诵经，或布施钱物。

On lunar April 8th, it was known as Buddha’s Birthday, that was Bathing Buddha's Day. It was a religious festival when Buddhism was introduced to China."Bathing the Buddha"was the principle activity on this day. Since Ming and Qing dynasties, there was the custom of begging Buddhism beans in Beijing. The monks usually twisted the Buddha beans. Every bean was a symbol of a Buddha. Devotees to the Buddha were willing to burn incense and fulfill their promises, prayed to Buddha, offered money and supplies.
