Dragon Boat Festival

端午节在农历五月初五。旧京的人们在门前插菖蒲、艾叶,贴天师符和钟馗像,同时用红纸剪成葫芦或蛇、蝎、蟾蜍、蜈蚣、壁虎等五毒图案,用以辟邪;饮雄黄酒、五毒酒以祛毒;出游天坛、金鱼池、积水潭等地以避灾。明清以来,端午节又叫“女儿节”。少女们精心打扮,头戴簪花辟邪,出嫁的女子也要回娘家。


Dragon Boat Festival is on lunar May 5th.In old Beijing, people preferred to insert calami and folium artemisiae argyies, paste Tianshi amulet and portrait of Zhongkui. Meanwhile, they prepared the red paper cutting such as calabash, snake, scorpion, toad, centipede, and gecko which were taken as five poisonous creatures, people used them to exorcise evil spirits. They drank Realgar Wine and Five-Venoms to remove poison. They visited Temple of Heaven, Golden Fish Pond and Jishuitan and other palaces to avoid the disaster. Since Ming and Qing dynasties, Dragon Boat Festival was also called as "Daughter's Day". On this day, the girls dressed up and wore flowers in hair to exorcise evil spirit. The married ladies also visited their parental homes.

端午节的节令食品最主要的是粽子。北京正统的粽子一般以江米小枣为主,还有一种是没有任何馅儿的,包得很小巧,吃的时候只撒上一点白糖。
