北京很多大的寺观都要举办盂兰法会超度亡灵，其中“烧法船”是一个重要的习俗。法船由旧时的冥衣铺用木条或秸秆及彩纸糊制而成。船头为猛虎图案，上站探身持叉的探路鬼，其身后是“黑白无常”鬼。另外还要糊掌舵的一人，持桨划船的若干人。僧众、居士诵经之后，再将法船焚化。
