清朝以前,马车主要是皇室的移驾用车。雍正朝以后,北京城中开始出现骡车、驴车,渐渐取代了马车。清末,是骡车最出风头的年代,天桥、先农坛外、永定门外、南顶等处盛行“跑车”,又叫“跑飞车”、“跑热车”,那时候王公贵族们就开始“飙车”了。乾隆五十八年(1793),英国使节将西式马车传入中国。但是西式马车真正在中国盛行,已经是十九世纪五六十年代了。


Before Qing Dynasty, horse cart was the principle means of transportation for the imperial family. Since the period of Yongzheng Emperor, mule carts and donkey carts gradually emerged in Beijing city, and horse cart was gradually abolished. In late Qing Dynasty, mule carts were most popular during this period,"Racing carts" were prevailing in Tianqiao, Xiannongtan, Yongding Gate and Nanding, also called as"Pao feiche"or"Pao reche". From that time on,"cart racing"had been popular among the nobilities. In fifty-eighth of Qianlong Period (1793), western cart was brought into China by envoys of Britain. However, westerns cart were popular in 1950-1960s in China.
